The trend of remakes in Bollywood has been prevalent for ages. There have been innumerable instances where the Bollywood industry not only hesitated to copy the storyline of the film but also took the same cast as the original one. While this industry has been popular to be a copycat for the South industry, there have been times when the makers didn’t even hesitate to take their content from the French cinema! While you all have been thinking that our classic writers of the industry were responsible for giving this offbeat content, they were rather simply copied! This film was an adaptation of the 1998 French movie Le Dîner de Cons which was also remade into Hollywood and then by Bollywood.

Bichhoo

This 2000 action thriller film was certainly one of the most underrated movies of Bollywood. While you will fall in love with the characters and plot of the film, this was copied from the 1994 French movie Léon: The Professional. Starring Bobby Deol and Rani Mukherji in the lead roles, this movie gave a new dimension to Indian cinema with its different plot. This comedy film was the remake of the 2006 french film that not only inspired the Bollywood industry but also became an inspiration for a Punjabi movie named Disco Singh and a Bengali film, Haripada Bandwala. With an ensemble cast as a lead in the movie, this comical drama received a positive response upon its release but was not able to create a powerful impact on the box office. This movie was an adaptation of the French film, The Valet.

Heyy Babyy

The Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar has always been known for his exceptional performance and off-beat content of the movies. While you will fall in love with the actors, characters, and story of the film, this movie was an even more delightful experience because of the cute little angel in the movie. While you might not find the story an extraordinary one, its songs were a cherry on the top. Apart from having a great soundtrack, this movie is based upon the 2003 French comedy film Après Vous. A simple comedy-drama film with various Sobre elements, this movie is worth giving a shot at least once.

Teraa Surroor

While the title of this movie is regarded as one of the recognizable performances of the singer Himesh Reshammiya, the singer went on to surprise the audiences by indulging as a lead in to the film with the same name. While you might have skipped upon the movie, let us refresh your memories upon the same. This Hindi thriller movie was a work by Shawn Arranha and became a sequel to the 2007 film, Aap Kaa Surroor. With actors like – Himesh Reshammiya, Shekhar Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Kabir Bedi, etc. this movie was an adaptation of the 2008 French movie Anything for Her.

Kartoos

An action thriller film by Mahesh Bhatt, this 1999 film was the last as a director of Mahesh Bhatt before Sadak 2. The story plot of the film was borrowed by the French film La Femme Nikita. Starring Manisha Koirala,Sanjay Dutt,Jackie Shroff,Gulshan Grover in the lead roles, this movie revolved around the story of a cop who gives training to a criminal to kill a don.

Bumboo

This 2012 Black comedy film was a work by Jagdish Rajpurohit. While you might find the name of the film a bit quirky, this film was inspired by the French play and the black comedy film, L’emmerdeur. With a set of classic supporting actors of Bollywood as leads, this film included actors like – Sharat Saxena, Sanjay Mishra, Kavin Dave, Sudhir Pandey, etc. this movie received an average response at the box office.

Don Muthu Swami

While you might confuse this film to be of any other regional language, due to its title, Don Muthu Swami, this was a 2008 Hindi language film by Ashim Samanta and starred actor Mithun Chakraborty in the lead role as Don Muthuswami. With actors like Karanvir Bohra and Veena Malik as leads, this film was loosely adapted by the 2003 French film Dead End. Released in both 2D and 3D formats, this film was a work by Hemant Madhukar.

Yaara

This crime-action film by Tigmanshu Dhulia starred Vijay Varma, Vidyut Jammwal, Amit Sadh, Shruti Haasan, etc. in prominent roles. The official remake of the 2011 French film A Gang Story, this movie revolved around the story of a criminal gang who come together to save their friend who was caught by the police. This film marked its release through the OTT platform, ZEE5 in 2020.
